Trek unveils the fifth-generation carbon Domane
American brand TREK today unveils the fifth-generation carbon Domane. Lighter, cleaner and still designed for long rides, the new model returns to the fundamentals of road cycling while retaining the endurance qualities that made it a success.
Trek has unveiled a new generation of its Domane, one of the defining models in its endurance road range. For this fifth generation, the American manufacturer is focusing on a lighter carbon frame, a cleaner silhouette and a design intended to combine speed, comfort, stability and versatility.
The new Domane takes a more traditional road-bike approach, with a design stripped of unnecessary features while benefiting from current carbon technology and clearance for higher-volume tyres, as is now increasingly common. That makes it just as at home on perfect asphalt as on more broken-up roads.
Weight savings are one of the main selling points of this new generation. With an equivalent frame, the Domane SLR Gen 5 weighs 305 grams less than the previous generation, thanks in particular to an optimised design and the use of OCLV carbon. In its lightest configuration, Trek also claims a weight reduction of around 950 g compared with the lightest build from the previous generation.
A modern bike with a decidedly classic feel
Trek set out to refocus the Domane on the essentials: a light frame, a comfortable ride, reassuring handling and understated looks.
The result is a bike that retains the Domane’s DNA while taking on a slimmer, more stripped-back profile. Its distinctly road-bike aesthetic comes with the compatibility standards riders expect today.
Comfort without sacrificing speed
For this fifth generation, Trek has dropped its IsoSpeed system, but says it has maintained the level of comfort expected from a Domane. To achieve that, the brand is relying on the frame’s specific carbon construction, higher-volume tyres and a new seatpost designed to filter out road buzz and roughness.
With the recommended tyres, vibration-damping performance is therefore said to remain within 5% of the previous generation, according to the manufacturer’s measurement protocol, known as Vibrational Energy.
The new seatpost is designed to flex vertically, absorbing vibration and small imperfections in the road surface. The aim is to improve comfort over long distances and make it easier for riders to maintain their effort hour after hour.
Up front, Trek has also introduced a new raised handlebar that provides 20 mm of additional stack height. It allows riders to adopt a slightly more upright position without making the front end look visually heavier.
A bike for all-day rides and every kind of road
The Domane is also expanding its horizons. The frame now clears tyres up to 40 mm wide, providing more volume for improved comfort, grip and stability. That opens the door not only to long rides on tarmac, but also rougher roads and light gravel sections.
The bike also retains Trek’s Road Endurance geometry, with a more upright position and geometry that prioritises high-speed stability and comfort as the hours build in the saddle.
The integrated mounting points also make it easy to add a top-tube bag, frame or triangle bag, and mudguards. The Domane is designed to be versatile enough for long rides, difficult weather conditions and detours that take riders away from the planned route.
A streamlined carbon range
With this new generation, Trek has organised its carbon Domane family around two levels:
The Domane SL is the entry point to the brand’s endurance carbon technology, with prices starting at around €2,499.
Above it, the Domane SLR sits at the top of the range, with more exclusive builds, the highest-level finishes and access to the customisation options offered through Project One. Riders can customise their Domane down to the smallest details, from component choice to paint. They can opt for an especially lightweight build or one focused more heavily on aerodynamics, as well as choose between different finishes, from matte to metallic. Handlebar width, crank length and various other parameters can also be customised at no extra cost.
