Gravity Race 2026 goes big at Lake Nantua with new trail and open-water swims
A pioneering, flagship SwimRun event in France, the Gravity Race is back on 12 September 2026 at Lake Nantua (01) for its 11th edition. And this time, it’s bringing a stack of new races. Triathlons.com breaks it all down.
After nine editions on the shores of Lake Annecy, the Gravity Race moved in 2025 to Lake Nantua, in the heart of the Jura forest. Building on the success of that first year in a truly stunning setting, the event is confirming its roots in the Bugey region. On 12 September, it’s even stepping things up: alongside three SwimRun courses in solo or duo, there will also be brand-new trail and open-water swimming races.
SwimRun still at the heart of Gravity’s DNA
Staying true to its roots, the Gravity Race keeps its three signature SwimRun formats, available solo or as a duo:
SwimRun Long - 40 km / 1700 m D+ (start 7:30am): A run-swim alternation adding up to 6 km of swimming across two lakes and 34 km of running.
SwimRun Medium - 21 km / 1000 m D+ (start 11:00am): A run-swim alternation adding up to 4 km of swimming and 17 km of running.
SwimRun Sprint - 13 km / 400 m D+ (start 12:00pm): A run-swim alternation adding up to 2.5 km of swimming and 10.5 km of running.
New for 2026: Two trail formats
First new feature for this 11th edition: the Gravity Race is adding trail running with two brand-new distances that make the most of the Haut-Bugey terrain and scenery:
Gravity Trail 34 km - 1500 m D+ : A first for the event, with a superb loop deep in the Jura forest, linking Lake Nantua to the stunning Lake Genin, perched at 830 metres above sea level. A demanding, spellbinding route worthy of Gravity’s reputation.
Gravity Trail 20 km - 900 m D+ : An accessible yet spectacular loop with sweeping views over Lake Nantua, topped off by the climb to the Colonne viewpoint.
Both formats are aimed at trail runners who want a taste of the Gravity universe: a natural playground, carefully designed courses, and the friendly, committed vibe that’s defined the event from day one.
New for 2026: Two open-water swim races
For swimmers who just want to swim, the Gravity Race is also launching two events focused exclusively on open-water swimming, in the crystal-clear setting of Lake Nantua.
Swim 5 km : A fully supported double crossing of the lake, for swimmers looking for a challenge and total immersion in this protected natural site.
Swim 2.5 km : A south-to-north crossing of the lake (return by shuttle), ideal for getting into open-water swimming in optimal conditions.
Known for the purity of its water, its 43-metre depth, and surface temperatures hovering around 20°C in early September, Lake Nantua is an outstanding venue for swimming. These new races strengthen the Gravity Race’s multi-discipline identity, while staying true to the event’s deep connection with nature.
