On the French Riviera, the Ironman 70.3 Nice has all the makings of a true classic. It offers a more accessible version of the ultimate triathlon distance without sacrificing any of the spectacle: 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21.1 km of running. Together, these distances add up to 70.3 miles, giving the race its name.
The race starts in the heart of the Mediterranean, off the Baie des Anges, with the city as a backdrop. Athletes then mount their bikes to leave the seafront behind and head for the hills, where the roads of the hinterland alternate climbs, bends and wide-open views over the coastline. The final leg brings everyone back into the city: the half marathon takes place along the Promenade des Anglais, surrounded by spectators who have just one goal: to push the competitors all the way to the finish.
This race appeals just as much to seasoned triathletes looking for a fast time as it does to those taking their first steps over the middle distance. With its exceptional setting, varied course and festive atmosphere, it leaves every finisher eager to come back!
