In the “queen of spa towns,” Ironman 70.3 Vichy has all the makings of a great summer celebration. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Great Spa Towns of Europe, the spa town hosts an intermediate-distance triathlon every summer: 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and a 21.1 km half-marathon, in a setting where the lake’s tranquillity contrasts with the intensity of the effort.

The race begins in the calm waters of the Allier River, renowned as one of the best open-water swimming spots in France and ideal for a first experience at this distance. The bike course then heads towards the Bourbonnais Mountains, along undulating roads where the villages of Auvergne pass by and where certain climbs, now almost legendary, put your legs to the test. Finally comes the half-marathon, which takes place over two loops around the lake and through the spa town, passing along riverbanks, through parks and past elegant façades, with a warm atmosphere from start to finish.
